Appointed Missionaries

For appointment as missionaries with our Australian Aboriginal Outreach, it is normally required that the following training and preparations be completed prior to appointment

bullet Three years formal training in a recognised Bible College
bullet Completion of the nine week World Harvest Institute Missionary Orientation and Training Course
bullet Six to twelve months field orientation and training under the oversight of an A.A.O. Missionary in an outback Aboriginal situation
bullet Basic knowledge and ability in the Creole language
bullet E.A.M. Seminar-compulsory.

During the field orientation and training phrase, approved applicants will be recognised as "Mission Assistants" without credential.

Financial support during this phase is normally the responsibility of the person in training. In special cases limited support may be approved.

This may call for extensive itinerary and a period of time with personal responsibility to raise support before full appointment can be achieved.

Other Workers

All other workers who wish to be involved in any type of short or longer term supportive roles, whilst being financially self-sufficient, should be trained as follows

bullet An acceptable Bible knowledge according to the ministry or task
bullet Completion of the nine week World Harvest Institute Missionary Orientation and Training Course
bullet Six months training field training orientation and training under the oversight of an AAO missionary in and outback area
bullet After training is completed, such workers may be considered by the World Missions Council for "Missions Assistant" recognition to work under the oversight of an A.A.O. missionary
bullet In special circumstances, they may be permitted to work in a local church actively involved in ministry to Aborigines by agreement with the Pastor and A.A.O. leadership
bullet The recommendation of the A.A.O. Field Co-ordinator and local Pastor will be required before recognition can be considered.

Orientation and Training Programme

The following field program is required for all applicants for missionary appointment with the Australian Aboriginal Outreach of the Assemblies of God World Missions.

A six months field orientation and training programme in an outback Aboriginal situation under the oversight of an appointed A.A.O. missionary. The length of this phase will be decided by the A.A.O. Field Co-ordinator in consultation with the oversight missionary.

Programme

A guided programme of daily and weekly activities and learning situations in respect to Aboriginal culture and contact.

A daily schedule of assigned activities in both the practical and spiritual areas of need and service to Aboriginal people-- covering such areas as transport, wood chopping, service to the aged, song leading, prayer leading and preaching. Being a servant and a helper to the missionary and the church in every way possible, demonstrating your love for God and the people.

Monthly reports on activities and progress will be prepared and lodged by the overseeing missionary with the A.A.O. Field Co-ordinator. Quarterly assessments and an end of programme report and recommendation will also be tendered to the Field Co-ordinator for the guidance of the World Missions Council.
