Red Bluff Morgan Horse Stud    -    Who? What? Where?

YOUR WEB PAGE HOST!

Born and bred to a farming  family in the Alexandra area in Victoria, Australia the first of five children, I was cultivated as “Dad’s right hand man” so learnt to keep up on the back of a horse from the age of three. As I wore out my first pony in twelve months I progressed to others, begged, borrowed and bought and developed a  few  skills that have stood the test of time and a little knowledge that I have applied to the Love of My Life……Equines.

Experience is the best teacher they say so I am indebted to fact that I was ‘lent’ to  local cattlemen and horsemen for a days work often enough to assimilate some tutoring from the experts of the time. Back then everybody had horses. The neighbours bred thoroughbreds and ponies, showed at the Royals and stood stallions at stud. Cattlemen used horses for real stock work on a daily basis. Fencing was erected using draft horses and sleds to get up the hills. I rode my horse to music lessons 10 mile and home again regardless of the weather. I was the unpaid hired hand for any activity that involved horses.

I became a teacher, specializing in Special Education, and bought my first farm and stallions and mares by 21. My work was my hobby and horses were my part time work! I enjoyed endurance riding back in the days it was a new, and have maintained an interest in it, limited only through other commitments. Having my mare compete and finish 11th Heavy Weight at the 1990 S.A. Tom  Quilty with a guest American rider, Dr Christine Marks up, was the highlight of this endeavour.

In 1987 I became a Morgan owner with the purchase of Aura Dell Charlie Brown [Saddleback Sultan X Saddleback Sundance] and the lease of Wawayanda Watch Out Imp., Lizotte Lil Bridget Imp., Aura Dell Misty, Aura Dell Peekie and a Part bred Aura Dell Break of Day. Under the prefex of Mt Tawonga  I began breeding in partnership with W.G.Powell. At a later date these horses were purchased under the company name of Tan Dan Pty Ltd.

In 1994 I purchased and imported Marvelous Encore from Ellie Mason of Marvelous Morgans, Wood Run Trillium in foal  by frozen semen to Royalton Ashline from Dr Linda Eiben of Wood Run Morgans and frozen semen from Equinox Royalty and Wood Run Mandrake.  I imported Linda Eiben  to teach me how to A.I and secured Mt Tawonga Tobey and Mt Tawonga Kate. I visited USA and Canada  to see more Morgans in the flesh, to help me evaluate what I was producing and met many breeders and saw a lot of horses. I returned to Australia with confidence and justified satisfaction.

When the time came to sever business ties with Mt Tawonga  in 2000 and establish my Red Bluff Morgans Stud, I retained an elite group of mares and stallions.

When Mt Tawonga Moroka was struck by lightning, I was devastated. His death created a gulf in my planned breeding program .

I purchased a young colt Ereistay Yardah [Tui’s Wind Song Imp NZ X Aura Dell Peekie] from Frances Crowley in Western Australia when she retired and dispersed her stud. When the opportunity arose to purchase  Taproot Messenger Imp USA ,[Taproot Command Pilot X Taproot Sweet Flag} in New Zealand  from Erica Tingcombe and Keith McCallum, I didn’t hesitate. Both these horses have given me a new lease on life and the  opportunity to expand my program beyond previous expectation.

The five mares bred to Taproot Messenger may be viewed on our Mares page.

I have also purchased Clearwater Black Majesty Imp Canada 2003 (Oakrose Black Magic X Rohan Firiel} a black Pure Lippitt who will arrive for the breeding season 2003/2004.
I have a policy of spreading the available genetics in Australia  and encourage the exchange of genetics between New Zealand and Australia and in so doing have sold on another NZ bred mare Myross Hine who I imported in 2002 and Taproot Messenger to South Australian interests.
My stock has established new studs or foundation  breeding stock for many Studs and breeding programs across all states in Australia and New Zealand. I believe Australia has an interesting diversity of genetics and  the Morgan in Australia is on the thresh-hold of rapid expansion.

To give breeders the opportunity to capitalize on the latest blood lines in Australia ,  I have developed a pre-purchase option contract. Click here to evaluate.
