Ostrich eggs have to be tough to support their parents' weight. |

Why ostrich eggs are tough!
This is because the egg has to bear the weight of an adult ostrich when it sits on the egg to incubate it. The ostrich lays the largest eggs of all living birds. Each egg may be more than 15 centimeters (six inches) long and may weigh more than 32 golf balls. But the adult ostrich can weigh twice what many adult humans weigh. According to the Guinness Book of Records, male North African ostriches [Struthio camelus camelus] have been recorded weighing more than 156 kilograms (345 pounds) and growing to 274 centimetres (9 feet) tall. If ostrich eggs were not tough, they would be crushed when the adult ostrich sat on them, and no baby ostriches would be born. No time for experimentsThis principle applies to other birds' eggs as well. There is no room for mistakes while an evolutionary process “experiments” with size and strength of eggs. The egg's strength and the adult bird's weight have to be correct right from the start, otherwise there would be no more birds. It stretches credulity to believe that an unthinking evolutionary process could develop this relationship over a long period of time. Weak eggs and weighty parents at any stage of the “developing” process would bring an end to the bird population. In fact, the very first generation of birds on earth would need to have things working well. The relationship is better explained as the planned result of an all-wise Creator … the God who created the birds and their egg-laying abilities working in perfect balance from the day of their creation.
