Jet is one of Melbourne's longest running Big Bands. With it's musical roots based at Clayton Technical School in the 70's it was the inspired vision of a passionate teacher and extraordinary pianist, George Cadman, to run a big band for his ex-students. The next step was the wider community …
The Big Band Social Club was born, inviting big bands from all parts of town to play on a Monday night each Month at a showcase. This featured 3 groups and was hosted by the band that in 1981 became Jet.
Denis Farrington and his friends at the Musicians' Club in Windsor supported the nights, keen to see young performers have a chance to play a real gig. Community Groups, Secondary School and Tertiary Stage Bands have all helped keep the big band music tradition alive and strong in Melbourne.
Jet has played at a wide variety of functions including High School Dances, Corporate Balls, Weddings, Birthdays, Christmas Functions, Community Fairs, Council Events and Music Festivals. Our Big Band Night has continued through line-up changes and venue closures.
We nurture the many talented players that come along for a "blow" with us at rehearsal and who come to play with their groups on our
showcase nights.Mondays are a great tradition in Big Band Music....a part of our life we can share with you.
See you at the gig!
