I dreamed of owning
a Waler and helping (in a small way) to ensure the survival of these
wonderful
horses when I heard about the efforts of some individuals to save Walers
from stations in northern Australia, where a government horse erradication
scheme was planned. I arranged the purchase of a Waler mare with the
help of two horse classifiers and some wonderful horse and Waler enthusiasts.
My mare began her long journey south, whilst I anxiously counted
the days until I her arrival in South Australia. Finally that day came
and she arrived safely at our property. She did not disappoint, and
so began my love affair with the Waler horse.
Now, we have three
brood mares, youngsters in training, and our latest crop of foals.
The
mares are all station-bred, ensuring the continuation of those highly
desirable Waler characteristics.......... My dream has become reality.
