Mindura Jack Russells

Everything about the Jack Russell Terrier says fox hunting; his conformation, character, attitude, and intelligence. He is of balanced and flexible build with straight legs and a narrow chest. He measures ideally between 10-12" in height. Coats are broken, dense, straight, harsh, and tight so as to give a smooth appearance from a distance.
His height gives him the length of leg to follow the fox over ground, and the narrow chest, flexible frame and tenacity lets him follow a fox into the den.

He is bold though cautious in temperament; an independent, thinking terrier accustomed to working alone with only his instincts to guide him. Indeed, many a tale has been told of a Jack Russell finding the fox before the hounds could!

The Jack Russell Terrier originated in large part from the dedicated efforts of Pastor John (Jack) Russell (known as "The Sporting Parson") of Devonshire, England. While a student at Oxford, Russell often abandoned his studies in favour of fox hunting.
It was such a terrier that John Russell wanted very badly. In 1819 the answer came from an unlikely source: a milkman who owned a terrier such as John Russell had only dreamed about. Russell acquired the female, named Trump, who then went on to become the matriarch of the breed that now bears the Parson's name.
Although fox hunting is most often identified with foxhounds, every pack also included small terriers that could bolt a fox that had gone to ground so that the hunt could continue. Such terriers were extremely important members of the hunt; after all, the success of the entire affair depended upon the tenacity, courage, intelligence, and athleticism of these dogs.
