'ency' is an library that can read and parse the Star Trek Encyclopedia CD-ROM Data files.
It also has three programs written by me,
- findenc - A simple searcher.
- htmlenc - A simple searcher with html output.
- scanenc - This examines unknown .dxr and .cxt files
Changelog
News (juicy bits from the Changelog)
Supports
- The original omnipedia
- The updated omnipedia
- The CDROM Encyclopedia released in 1998
- The TNG Episode Guide
- The DS9 Episode Guide
- ency99, the "Star Trek Encyclopedia 3.0"
The TNG and DS9 Companions are not supported as I cannot find any in Australia, nor any company willing to ship them internationally. Any information (or donations :) would be greatly appreciated
A nifty GNOME interface exists, see the links section. If people want to create interfaces for KDE, OpenGL, SDL or Windows, go ahead! (Yes, it runs under DOS!). Send me a note and I'll link to your page. I have created ARM binaries for the iPAQ as well as a minimal GTK interface. Email me if you want a copy, and I can put it up here.
I've hacked together a simple OSX interface in Cocoa. It's pretty minimalistic though :-). Welcome nextENCY 0.0, in binary and source. Screenshot. Building it might be a pain. I'm not sure if libency 0.8.6 needs fixing to build under OSX... my local CVS copy is definately fine, after a Makefile tweak (to generate the library using libtool).
Documentation
Text, HTML, and SGML API documentation is included in ency-devel RPM (in /usr/doc/ency-devel-
0.8.6
), the SGML version is also in the ency deb. SGML documentation is included in the .tar.gz.

A GNOME-based interface. You may be better off using the code in CVS as it supports the latest encyclopedia and is much faster.
The CVS repository is hosted by SourceForge. (Search for 'gnometrek').

A wonderful bunch of people who have had some great ideas on what to do with libency. They have montly meetings in San Francisco for people that like Star Trek and/or free software. (And I know you do! :-)
Mail Me if you download this software, please!!!. Say if you like it, hate it, deleted it, patched it, used it, etc. please! If no one says anything, i have no feedback with which to improve it.
