Origins
of the Launceston Branch.
The Genealogical
Society of Tasmania was formed in Hobart in April 1980. Subsequently
an open meeting of people interested in forming a Launceston Branch
of the Society was held at the Kings Meadows High School on 4 November
1980, and the first Annual General Meeting of the Launceston Branch was held
on the 7 April 1981.
As
from 1st April 2001, the name of the Society was changed to Tasmanian
Family History Society Inc. Presently the membership of the Branch
is approximately 250.

Launceston Branch hold meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month

The British Isles Interest Group hold meetings on the third Wednesday
in even months at the Adult Education rooms, York Street, Launceston.

MEMBERSHIP.
Membership
of the Tasmanian Family History Society Inc. is open to anyone who is
interested in tracing their Genealogy and Family History.
All members receive copies of the Society's journal 'Tasmanian
Ancestry' published quarterly in June, September, December and
March.
Members are entitled to free access to all of the Society's Branch
Libraries and have reciprocal rights with many other libraries in
other States.

BRITISH
ISLES INTEREST GROUP..
An interest group formed from the
members of the Launceston Branch, Tasmanian Family History Society
Inc. who are researching their family history in the British Isles.
Meetings are
held on the third Wednesday of each even month at 2.00pm at the
Adult Education Rooms in York Street, Launceston. Two lunches are
held each year usually a mid year lunch in July and Christmas lunch
during December.
