We (Jules and his father Michael) have been 'GRIBBLE hunting' for the last 25 years or so. With the advent of both personal computers and the net, the possibilities of linking up with other 'GRIBBLE hunters' to share information and establish links has been greatly enhanced. It is only fair that we share our lineage with those who are kind enough to share theirs with us.
We would like to reiterate that we are seeking to link both the male side (via the surname GRIBBLE and its phonetic variants) and the female side of our family. Both are equally important, although the female (distaff) side is sometimes is harder to follow as the surname (typically) changes. However, we are not about to let these things diminish our enthusiasm!
This is simplified and constructed only to go backwards in time. We have done this only in the interests of conserving space and seeking to find a presentation that is concise yet easy to follow - we hope! Also note
· some of the earlier links remain to be fully verified;
· DEV means Devon, the county in southwest England.

In the hunt for our specific branch of the GRIBBLE family (now going backwards in time up our own branch) we would be interested if anyone has GRIBBLE links with the following surnames - especially in the region of Devon:
DeGRUCHY, EDDS, FARLEY, HORE, REEVE, SMERDON, WEEKES.
I am 43, married, with two children. By profession I am an actuary. My wife is has a business as a needlework designer specialising in cross stitch and historic Samplers.
I was brought up in Adelaide, South Australia, although I was born in London, England. I spent three years at St Andrews University in Fife in the late 70’s and obtained a Ph. D. (don't hold that against me - my wife doesn't - it hasn't helped me count any better and doesn't make the GRIBBLE hunting any easier! ...). While in Scotland I visited Devon a couple of times and decided it was a pretty nice part of the world to have originally hailed from. After St Andrews I went to Canada and remained there until 1989 when we returned to Adelaide. Since 1994 we have been happily living in Melbourne- although I support the Crows (1997 AFL Premiers!).
In addition to my Gribble hunting interests, we spend quite a lot of time trying to renovate an early 1900’s Federation house, look after various dogs and cats (all of whom consider themselves to be integral and important family members). I also play squash in an effort to retain some fitness - after drinking good Australian red wine and eating health foods like (dark) chocolate.
I am Jules' father, a medical practitioner - pathologist - by profession. Like my father, I was born in Oxford, England, the first members of our immediate family ever to have been born out of sight of the East scarp of Dartmoor in Devon.
My family left Oxford when I was young, but I returned to graduate there, finishing my medical eduction at The London Hospital, Whitechapel, in the East End of London. After research in the RAF, I worked in London and Dundee, Scotland before migrating with my family to Adelaide, South Australia in 1961
My wife shares my genealogical and historical interests and is working on her own family, her Great-grandfather having been one of the first pioneers in the S-E of South Australia. His father went to the same school as I did - Christ's Hospital, the Bluecoat School - but just over two hundred years earlier, and our investigation of the school records has revealed some fascinating characters of mutual interest.
We look after our sizeable garden, attend to the whims and needs of our two dogs and try to find time to keep up with our genealogical interests and the relevant bits of modern IT.
