Links and Contacts with Other GRIBBLE Genealogists

Introduction

There are lots (squillions) of websites that one can go to for genealogical information. Some of these sites are general interest and some are more specialised. Also, there are some specific individuals who have specific knowledge of GRIBBLE's in specific geographical areas.

On this page we list some other GRIBBLE researcher's name and email addresses and a brief comment on their interests if necessary - but only once we have received specific permission from them to be referenced. Where we have permission, we also list some information on line(s) the researcher is most interested in, in the hope this will help people make yet more links. The Sharing Information page, we have a ‘Code of Conduct’ to control information we disseminate. As noted there, the intent of the Code is to preserve privacy, especially of those still living, and ensure that fair consideration is given before is made public.

We have also listed some of the more general interest sites we have found in a separate section entitled Useful Website Links.

If you contact one of these people, we ask that you

·         Jules and Michael GRIBBLE: That's us! For a bit more on our branch see the Us and Our GRIBBLE Page.

Canada

·         Zac GRIBBLE: Zac's family starts (as far as we know so far) with a William GRIBBLE, who married Mary Harriet WEBBER, and was born in Crediton in Devon, England, in 1844. He apparently emigrated to Ontario, Canada, in 1893 and was a Presbyterian clergyman.

New Zealand

·         Jan & Mike GRIBBLE: Mike is a descendant of Samuel GRIBBLE and Anne DEEBLE (Sam's first wife, Grace POLKINGHORNE, dies in South Australia). Samuel and Anne emigrated to NZ in 1848 and was originally from Redruth, Cornwall England. The family prospered in NZ, with Mike and Jan now having traced something over 1,200 members - most (but not all!) of the GRIBBLE's in NZ.

Email - Jan & Mike GRIBBLE

·         Judy Davis: Judy is a descendant of Benjamin GRIBBLE (born 1773) and Anne POOL. Judy is descended from their son William GRIBBLE (born 1811), while Keith Fisher (see South Africa below) is descended from their son John Pool GRIBBLE (born 1809). This family comes from Redruth, Cornwall. William GRIBBLE marries Harriet Lavena JAMES in St Erth, Cornwall and one their 4 sons, Edward James GRIBBLE migrated to New Zealand in 1876, and one of his sons, William Arthur GRIBBLE is Judy’s grandfather.

Keith is the grandson of Harold Quick GRIBBLE, son of James GRIBBLE, son of James GRIBBLE, son of John Pool GRIBBLE. The older James GRIBBLE emigrated to South Africa in the mid 1800’s.

Judy and Keith (4th cousins!) have been doing lots of work on their joint GRIBBLE family, and have been able to find man links all over the world, including through mining and Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, and lots of other places in Australia. Judy would be pleased to here from you if you might be related to this large family, which also links to the Rev John Brown GRIBBLE’s family (relatively well known in Australia).

Email – Judy Davis or Keith (see below).

South Africa

·         Keith Fisher: Keith comes from another Cornish mining GRIBBLE family, from the village of Redruth. He is descended from a James GRIBBLE who emigrated to South Africa in 1859 or 1860. This branch of the family have 'tendrils' all over the place, including the USA, Australia and Canada - although the exact links remain to be tidied up! See Judy Davis above.

United Kingdom

·         Nick GRIBBLE: Nick and several of his relatives have collected quite a large GRIBBLE database relating to GRIBBLES who hail from the south of Devon, England, focusing on the Tamar Valley

United States

·         Larry Meyer: Larry has collected an extensive listing of GRIBBLE's descended from Thomas GRIBBLE (c 1748- c 1813), who married Sarah IRWIN, and lived in Mecklenburg Co, NC (born in PA). Thomas and his descendants have been quite prolific.

Larry's Website is http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/m/e/y/Larry-D-Meyer/index.html

Email: Larry Meyer

·         Karen Sunderman: For those who cleave to the GRIBBEL spelling of our name, we have another contact in Karen. This is the only branch of the family which we know of which can demonstrate a European (Alsace to be more precise) origin.
