NextVisitor's Walk

This was made for an exhibition run by a progressive country town in Western Australia. They stipulated that the works should use wool and that some of the wool should be merino. They were a sheep growing area and wanted things that would interest their young people, giving them incentives to remain at home.

I wanted to show them my favourite place. It is a walk carved by the local council out of the temperate rainforest near our country home. Towering Mountain Ashes with ferns, mosses and lichens growing up their trunks. It is an absolute fairy-land stage setting. The merino wool is in the waterfall which is also enhanced with glass beads. Using fine wools for this piece was right for the soft, shady atmosphere of the place.
