Getting Better Results From These Pages

As our focus is on Fine Art, attention has been paid to creating the best possible viewing of the art work.

Browser:

This site was developed using both Netscape Gold 3.0 and Microsoft FrontPage 2.0. Recent versions of both Netscape and Explorer should work well.

Screen resolution:

These images work well with the resolution set to 800 by 600.

Users with Netscape and 640 by 480 screen resolutions will get a better view of the images if they use the menu hiding program Flying Toolbars for Netscape Navigator obtainable at http://www.webcom.com/flyingtb .

Netscape users can also right click and select "view image".

Color Depth:

The important images are in JPEG format - which means that they support up to 16 million colors. The images should not be substantially affected by the different choices of color palettes by Microsoft and Netscape.

Users with their monitors set to 256 colors (8 bit color) or more will see a good image.

There is a noticable improvement in using Hi-Color (16 bit color) resolution - which supports 65,536 colors. However, in Hi-Color mode the PC and video card have to work a lot harder.

Users with less than 256 colours will not benefit greatly from these images.

In Windows 95 the color settings can be dynamically altered using the Quickres utility available in the Powertools - available from Microsoft..

(Most of the time I find 256 colors quite adequate and that Hi-Color mode slows the PC down too much.)

The optimal settings are:
Screen Resolution: 800 by 600, small fonts
Color Depth: Hi-Color (16 bit)

Note that these should be set before starting your browser.
