2004 News & Reports
Please feel free to pass on news items to:
18/4/2004 - Season opener against University, and we played a
get-out-of-jail-free card, with Donaldson scoring the winner with all of 5
seconds left on the clock after Boulter saved a penalty only 20 minutes
earlier. A scrappy display from Barney - put it down to rustiness.
25/4/2004 - A well oiled machine played good soccer
against Beachside White, finding plenty of room in the midfield to create a
bucket full of chances. Final score of 4 - 0 to Barney, with all the goals in
the first half. A yellow card for the birthday boy Dog Boulter - just what was
he doing outside his box ?
2/5/2004 - (Thanks to my sub-editor, M.Hunt) Rain, hail
and gale force winds didn't deter Barney from the job at hand.
Defence were solid (stuck) in the mud and the midfield ran well all day. Two
well taken goals from Hunt saw off Beachside on a very difficult day.
9/5/2004 - A solid if not stunning
performance from Barney, succumbing to 2 well taken taken goals from Dave
Robb, but scoring 4 to defeat Metro 4-2. Controlled the game for most of the
day.
15/5/2004 - A 4-2 victory away to
Kingston Cannons. Wasn't there = no report.
23/5/2004 - Thud ... The high flying
Barney were brought back to earth with a thud, losing 4-1 away to Newtown
Eagles. While we enjoyed a healthy percentage of possession, we were given a
lesson on finishing by Eagles. A rare goal from the sweeper a highlight.
29/5/2004 - Wasn't there, no report. A 6-2 loss to
Zebras.
6/6/2004 - A 3-1 loss away to Glenorchy Knights. Again we had our fair
share of possession, but failed to convert it into goals. After 5 wins to open
the season, we have realised this is not in the true Barnstoneworth tradition
and have subsequently lost our past 3.
19/6/2004 - After a 4-0 loss on the park, Barney ended up
with a 3-0 winning score line thanks to the opposition fielding an
unregistered player. We'll take that. Wasn't there, no report.
26/7/2004 7-1 win away
to Uni. Wasn't there, no report.
11/7/2004
Barnstoneworth scrapes through with a 1-0 home win against Beachside Green.
Had to rely on a superb thunderous drive from distance from the sweeper to split
the teams on the day - those less involved would call it a tap in.
17/7/2004 - A
forfeit from Beachside White after a rescheduled game caught them unawares and
couldn't field a team. 3-0, we'll take that.
25/7/2004 - Away
to Metro Claremont saw Barney go behind early, only to pull level shortly after,
only to go behind again. The sending off of big Jim McKinnon for "chesting" the
referee saw Barney take control and end up 6-2 winners.
1/8/2004 - A business like performance
against Cannons saw Barney lead 2-0 at half time and run out 5-0 winners by the
end. A hat-trick to Dalton in an even team performance. 4 games left, all tough
encounters....
15/8/2004 - Washed out against Zebras.
Later given 0-0 draw by Soccer Tas.
8/8/2004 - First hurdle overcome, a 1-0
victory at home to NewTown Eagles who have had the better of us in recent
encounters. Difficult windy conditions made for an unattractive game, but we
don't mind winning ugly.
21/8/2004 - Title hopes dashed with a
3-1 loss to Knights. On a difficult windy day, we couldn't find the way goal to
get a win. A dark day for the sweeper with a busted collar bone.
29/8/2004 - A 2-2 draw with South
Hobart. Wasn't there, no report.
5/9/2004 - The shuffled and reshuffled
makeup of Barney after drawing positions out of a hat resulted in a 2-2 draw
with Beachside White.
